President Nasheed To Give Keynote Speech To Islamic Conference In Malaysia

President Nasheed will give a keynote speech to an Islamic convention in Malaysia in June, alongside Prime Minister Najib Razak, former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamed, and Malik Obama, the brother of US President Barack Obama and chairman of the Barack H. Obama Foundation.

The 3rd International Muslim Unity Convention will be held on 11-12 June in Putrajaya, Malaysia. It is being organised by the Ramadhan Foundation, a leading global Muslim organisation, and the Global Movement of the Moderates – an organisation personally set up by Prime Minister Najib Razak to promote moderation in religion and foreign policy.

The theme of this year’s Convention is “Yes to Moderation, No to extremism” and, as in previous years, the world’s most renowned Muslim politicians, diplomats, scholars and leaders will gather to discuss and present their ideas how the Muslim world can unity to defeat extremism and present moderation as the true authentic voice of Muslims.

President Nasheed is due to give a 30-minute lecture at the conference, on the subject of ‘democracy, justice and peace’.

Other speakers at the conference include: His Highness Sheikh Dr Ahmed al Khazraji, Prince of Al Ansar Tribe and Custodian of the Prophetic Relics; His Highness Sheikh Mejren bin Sultan of the Royal Family of the United Arab Emirates; and H.E Ambassador Rashad Hussain, President Obama’s Special Envoy to the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC).

The Ramadhan Foundation is a leading Muslim organisation that has been working extensively over many years to build a platform for Muslim unity across the world. The Foundation was launched in 2005 at the inaugural 1st Muslim Unity Convention held in Manchester, UK.

Shaykh Muhammad Umar bin Ramadhan, Chairman of the Ramadhan Foundation and Executive Chairman of the organising committee said:

I am excited at the influential speakers that we will host and promote and I look forward to sharing their ideas and thoughts on moderation with the world.”
