President Mohamed Nasheed will deliver a keynote speech at the Plenary Session of the Pacific Risk Management ‘Ohana (PRiMO) 2015 Conference on 26 March 2015.
The conference will feature a keynote address by the Indigenous Head of State of Samoa, Tui Atua Tamasese Efi.
President Nasheed’s keynote address will be at the Plenary Session, “The Resilience of Island Destinations”. He will speak on the lessons from the Maldives about creating a resilient tourism industry and the lessons learned of preparing an island destination for the impacts of climate change and natural disasters. President Nasheed will be followed by a multi-sectoral panel of experts from Hawaii and other Pacific Islands, who will discuss how these lessons can be applied to their contexts.
President Nasheed is also scheduled to speak at the University of Hawai’i/East West Center on climate change impacts. During his visit to Hawaii, he will visit the Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology to discuss ocean acidification and marine coastal restoration. He will also visit the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whales National Marine Sanctuary to observe whale habitats and reef restoration sites.
