President Nasheed’s Request to Travel Abroad for a Family Wedding Denied by the Hulhumale’ Magistrate Court

The office of President Nasheed condemns in the strongest terms the Hulhumale’ Magistrate Court’s decision denying President Nasheed’s request to travel abroad for a family wedding.

President Nasheed requested leave to travel abroad from March 27-31. This request was denied by the Hulhumale’ Magistrate Court citing that it was too close to President Nasheed’s next scheduled trial date, April 4.

The office of President Nasheed notes with regret that President Nasheed was also prevented from travelling abroad for his father’s surgery in December 2012, when immigration authorities stopped him at the airport.

How can they stop him going abroad. I believe that Mr. Nasheed is still the elected president of Maldives & present government is a coup government. The Hulhumale’ Magistrate court is a fraud court. Mr. Nasheed must be free. If these barbarians are ruling the country, there will not be freedom to anybody. I think with in no time there can be a civil war.
